MGL6990 TS25 Kawa Z 900 - 1974
The first definite superbike of the seventies came from Honda, thereby overruling the competition of the Kawasaki factory that was working on their own four cylinder project under the code name ‘New York steak’. It came as a definite shock when Honda presented the CB 750 in 1968 on the Tokio motorshow.
The Kawasaki company decided to further their development to outclass Honda. The factory upgraded the cylinder capacity to 900 cc. to outclass their competitor. Instead of the CB 750 with a single overlying camshaft, Kawasaki developed an engine with a double overlying camshaft (DOHC) four cylinder. The machine was presented in 1972 and made an overwhelming impression, outclassing the Honda as the definite superbike of that moment.
